Cuban Stock Triumph Corto

I received this in a sample from Cuban Stock Cigars. It had right at about 6 months rest on it.

Very nice looking stick, sporting a rich, dark brown wrapper teeming with oils and quite a bit of tooth. Very tightly packed, one fairly large vein running down the length. The pre-light draw was perfect, earthy and sweet. The cap bunched a little when I clipped it, so it was a bit of a jagged cut.

First impression was pepper, and lots of it. Gave me a nice little tingle on the lips. Moving in further, my immediate impression was a good, strong cup of black coffee. There was a bit of maduro sweetness coming through, but the pepper was the prevailing flavor. Towards the end there was a nice caramel note as well, which was a nice finish. The smoke was thick, and despite the fairly large vein, the burn was picture perfect. The ash was fairly light, and held on about an inch at a time.

I really enjoyed this smoke. Looks like it comes in at around $8, and I can certainly see why. It was not the most complex smoke, however, the flavors were extremely nice and fairly balanced with the sweet and caramel notes playing off the pepper and coffee. Good smoke all the way to the nub.
